The Glendon Campus
In the 1950s, York University's Glendon Campus had a humble yet historic beginning when the property was acquired from the University of Toronto (U of T) for the symbolic price of just $1. This landmark deal marked the establishment of York University.
Cold War Origins
York was built in the 1960s during the Cold War, and rumor has it that the university was built so far out from the city center (just outside the blast radius of nuclear weapons at the time) in the event of a nuclear attack on Toronto.
